Oh Baby London Flagship Store Takes The East London Art World By Storm
London, UK (PRWEB) June 11, 2008 -- Oh Baby London (www.ohbabylondon.com), the naughty little kids wear shop and online boutique based in ultra fashionable Brick Lane East London, has taken the art world by storm and is now involved with Time Out First Thursday's (www.firstthursdays.co.uk), organised by the famous Whitechapel Gallery. Over 100 other galleries and spaces who are part of First Thursday's offer the opportunity for visitors to view art exhibitions for free and until late on the first Thursday of every month
Oh Baby London signed up to First Thursday's in May and each month the window and interior of the Oh Baby London shop will be dedicated to a local artist who will design work around a children's theme. Artist's work will include photography, painting, installation and product design. The Oh Baby London shop itself is open until 9pm on the first Thursday of each month so that people can view the work and shop until late. Oh Baby London also offers a discount to all shoppers on the night of 15% off everything in store.
The Time Out First Thursday's collaboration with Oh Baby London is a unique concept and one that has been welcomed by the organisers as it is very unusual. Oh Baby London are perfectly placed to be involved in this event as their little flagship store is on Brick Lane which is in Shoreditch, the centre of the London art world. Oh Baby London are the only kids wear shop to be involved directly with an art based project of this kind in London.
Hannah McHalick, designer and founder of Oh Baby London uses art references and detail from the local area such as graffiti to inspire her work, from the print on the fabrics to the garment design itself. Hannah's love of art naturally drew her to the collaboration with Time Out First Thursday's and she has been involved with and supported the local art scene since moving to the area ten years ago.
Hannah's local connections have secured her a window installation in June by artist Dean Whatmuff, who has exhibited at The Whitechapel Gallery and worked with Tracy Emin in the past. Entitled 'I Remember You', the exhibition comprises of a series of vinyl lettering that spell out the words to song lyrics containing the words 'baby' and can be viewed in the shop window at Oh Baby London until July 1st.
With a wealth of talented artists in the local Brick Lane area, Oh Baby London will play host to some wonderful exhibitions in the shop each month, plus some well known names will have work on display later in the year as well.
